Mobspin reviewed by TechCrunch

We’re excited that Mobspin, a social networking site that we worked on, was reviewed by TechCrunch.

Here’s how the site works. Rather than looking for advice from anonymous people on a site like Yelp or Yahoo! Answers, you send out questions to your community of friends. (You can quickly establish a friend list by importing from Facebook.)

It’s true that Yelp and Yahoo! Answers are already very popular. But I for one always wonder if I can trust the person who is giving the recommendation. Not only do I wonder if they are of a completely different breed than I am, but I wonder if it is the merchant him or herself.

But even more than this, when you send out question to your friends, it takes it to a new level – because you can ask questions that you wouldn’t think to search for on sites with recommendations by anonymous people. You might ask about a childcare referral, or what to get your girlfriend for the holidays… the possibilities are endless.

There’s even one more thing I like about Mobspin. It’s a great feeling to help out your friends.  When you have a great dentist, don’t you love giving your friend their name?  Mobspin encourages community in a way that larger, anonymous sites never can.  As wonderful as the huge, bustling Internet communities are, there is something wonderful about keeping your circle of guidance a little smaller.

All that said, Mobspin is going to have a tough go at it.  The space is crowded out there – it’s a mobscene.
