SPARK NS

SPARK NS is a new nonprofit on a mission to speed neuroscience discoveries from lab to clinic. With a collaborative model and $2 million grants to offer, they needed a nonprofit website that could build trust, credibility, and momentum.

Creating momentum to move treatment forward

The key insight

We quickly realized the $2 million grant would grab attention—but that wasn’t enough. If researchers didn’t understand SPARK NS’s mission or believe in its collaborative approach, the model wouldn’t work. So we designed the site to make the methodology not just clear, but inspiring.

The bold strategy

We needed to build a digital experience for scientific audiences that didn’t just explain the process—but made it impossible to ignore. By leading with vision and collaboration, we turned a methodology into a movement.

Hand holding a smartphone displaying the SPARK NS website’s “Programs” page, describing two-year immersive programs with a minimal design featuring line illustrations and a teal gradient background.
Tablet displaying the SPARK NS website’s “About” page, featuring text about the organization’s neuroscience mission and a photo of two scientists in a lab, against a soft green gradient background.

Lead with a bold vision

The homepage headline ends with a striking one-word sentence: Together. On scroll, the word shifts from navy to orange—drawing attention to SPARK NS’s core belief in collaboration. It’s followed by a bold, high-impact statement of vision that sets the tone for the entire experience.

Demystify the methodology

We broke down SPARK NS’s unique process into four clear, bold pillars—each distilled into a short, powerful phrase, and the up to $2 million grant as just one part of the program. A gently animated FAQ to dig into the details helped bring it all to life, answering key questions with clarity and confidence.

Visuals that say this is different

We avoided the generic science imagery that is so common on similar sites. Instead, we layered in bold graphics, evocative 1920s drawings from Nobel laureate Cajal and photos from real SPARK NS workshops to give the site a sense of authenticity, energy, and scientific soul.

“As a new organization with a fledgling brand identity and no digital presence, we were thrilled when Boldium helped us establish our mission and tell our story through a website with compelling visuals and exceptional ease of use, performance, and functionality. Working with Boldium is a blast!”

Takeaways for your next project

Start with the “why,” not the “how”

Big numbers grab attention, but belief in your approach is what drives action. We led with SPARK NS’s mission and methodology to build real buy-in—not just interest.

Your visuals are part of your argument

Design isn’t just decoration—it’s a strategic tool. Visual choices can clarify complexity, build trust, and communicate values before a single word is read.

Simplify the entry point

When dealing with complexity, start by boiling it down to its clearest, most essential parts. Then give curious users a way to go deeper.
